Carol helps people achieve their financial goals by advising, writing and speaking about money to her clients and other audiences. As the founder & Principal of Fair Advisors, She works with individuals, financial planning firms and nonprofit organizations to achieve their goals using financial and estate planning tools.
An experienced financial advisor and MIT graduate, she leverages her decade of international business consulting experience to educate her audiences and simplify the seemingly complex financial environment. Carol was quoted in Forbes magazine’s Investment Guide explaining her opinion of advisors who use buzzwords or suggest finance is too complicated to understand. “Remember theWizard of Oz? Look behind the curtain,” she recommends.
She believes that the biggest roadblocks to making good investment decisions are emotional baggage regarding money and a lack of clarity in the industry — both of which can be improved with financial education. Carol replaces people’s pre-conceived ideas about finance with knowledge and breaks down the psychological barriers hindering good investment choices.
“People enter a relationship with an advisor with a set of preconceived notions about finance and investments,” she says “Frequently these ideas drive their decisions, rather than logic. For example, if you talk with someone that grew up during the Depression, they are likely to avoid financial risk because of their experiences. Everyone has some issues with money, regardless of when they grew up and how educated they are.”
She has co-authored "The 3 Simple Rules of Investing" (Berrett Koehler, 2014) and “Personal Investing – The Missing Manual” (O’Reilly, 2010).
A sought after speaker and trusted source for journalists, Carol is regularly quoted in national publications like the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Consumer Reports.
Continuing her quest to teach people about money, Carol founded Fair Advisors Institute (FAI), a nonprofit dedicated to improving financial literacy in the US through education and research (fairadvisors.org). FAI developed and delivered personal finance courses for almost a decade. FAI has partnered with many local organizations, including Young Americans Bank, Girl Scouts of Colorado, The Boys & Girls Club of the High Rockies.
Carol received the 2009 TIAW World of Difference Award for her work economically empowering women. She has received the 5 Star Service Award annually since Fair Advisors was founded.
Whether writing, speaking or advising, Carol helps people understand money and use it as a tool to achieve their goals.
